Lend A Friend Code of Conduct

Lend A Friend respects and supports the basic right of people with a disability to live a life of dignity and respect, to have their needs met, and have independent decision making and flexibility of choice. The NDIS was designed to provide choice and control to participants, and at Lend A Friend we want to build on these principles and support their realisation.

Lend A Friend’s Code of Conduct provides standards and ethical behavioural principles expected of all it’s Helpers who engage Lend A Friend and provide services to the Members (Care Consumers) of Lend A Friend. By offering services to Members of Lend A Friend, Helpers are agreeing to:

Respect

  1. Treat everyone with respect and courtesy, and without harassment
  2. Act with care and diligence
  3. Recognise that each Member of Lend A Friend is an individual, with unique needs, and has the right to have these needs heard and respected
  4. Respect the Members right to choose who they would like as a Helper, how they would like to receive help, and not face punishment based on their preferences
  5. Provide client centred support, appreciating cultural, religious, ideological and other differences nonjudgmentally and without prejudice

Professionalism

  1. Maintain appropriate confidentiality about dealings that the Helper has with any Care Consumer or Provider
  2. Act professionally, ethically, and with integrity at all times while providing support and with dealings with the Lend A Friend Community
  3. Maintain professional and appropriate boundaries with Members
  4. Deliver reliable, high quality and personalised support to Members, following their guidance and the instructions listed in their Help Plan
  5. Not be under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or expose Members to harmful substances or explicit or pornographic materials
  6. Maintain and keep up to date all certification, qualifications, police and NDIS checks, case notes, and insurances needed to provide the care services

Health and Safety

  1. Immediately report any form of abuse and neglect of a Member to the relevant state authority and to the Member’s Care Manager
  2. Immediately report any incident to the relevant emergency service, and keep relevant case notes of the event by making an incident report
  3. Keep case notes in the notebook of each Member where required
  4. Always act with the Members health, safety and wellbeing in front of mind
  5. Provide care in a safe way, and following the relevant safety standards and practices of the NDIS and health industry
  6. To the best of your ability maintain a safe environment for yourself as a Helper and for the Member, reporting hazards and minimising risks

Financial matters and conflicts

  1. Take reasonable steps to avoid any conflict of interest (real or apparent) and disclose details of any material personal interest of the Helper in connection with the Helper’s engagement with Lend A Friend
  2. Use Lend A Friend’s resources in a proper manner and for a proper purpose
  3. Not improperly use inside information or the worker’s duties, status, power or authority:
    • To gain, or seek to gain, a benefit or an advantage for the worker or any other person; or
    • To cause, or to seek to cause, detriment to the Provider, Participant, or any other person
  4. Not provide false or misleading information in response to a request for information that is made for official purposes in connection with the worker’s engagement with Lend A Friend
  5. At all times behave in a way that upholds the Values and Worker Principles, and the integrity and good reputation of Lend A Friend
  6. In situations where a gift has been given to the Helper by the Member, this must be disclosed in the Notebook, noting what the gift is, and why it was given
  7. In general, Helpers should not make financial decisions for Members. For financial advise, Members should be assisted to see a qualified financial advisor. Assisting Members with paying bills is permitted

Ethics

  1. Act honestly, truthfully, and in accordance with the policies of Lend A Friend
  2. Act in good faith with Lend A Friend and it’s Members.
  3. Not offer services to Members which are not disclosed to Lend A Friend, and not providing services to Members when a booking is not made through Lend A Friend’s software
  4. If a Member requests services of the Helper without Lend A Friend, you should notify Lend A Friend immediately
  5. Not receive any cash payments for services or as rewards from Members
  6. Maintain appropriate professional Member/Helper relationships; Helper’s should not have physical, sexual or romantic relationships with Members, or the family of Members.
  7. Despite being called Lend A Friend, the expectation is to provide support to Members the way a friend might, but not expect anything in return the way a friend might.

Law

  1. Comply with all applicable Australian laws
  2. Comply with all applicable NDIS expectations
  3. Comply with any lawful and reasonable direction given by someone in the Helper’s Agency who has authority to give the direction
  4. Comply with the policies of the Agency
  5. Understand and abide by the contract signed with the agency. This includes non solicitation and non compete agreements
  6. Maintain privacy and confidentiality of all Members and the Lend A Friend Community, only disclosing personal and medical information when it is required or with consent of the Member
